I am a Greek multimedia artist, currently living in NY. My work stems from a need for direct communication with people and an admiration for the mundane. My creative practice is a multidisciplinary cross between performance art, video, and installation. I use elements from many different disciplines, to explore their different relationships and the boundaries of each one. I use humor; I mingle theatrical elements with essential familiar actions, always trying to find a space in which public and private experiences converge.
I like looking at objects and imagine they are something else. Thus a feather becomes breath, a bathtub a rescue boat and a subway cart a living room.
Texture in my work is very important. Whether my work is video, collage or clay animation it is essential to make sure that the work has a hand-made feeling.
For that, in my video work, I use a lot of close-ups and blurriness, to leave an ambiguity that makes the piece almost abstract, and open for the viewer to place his own pictures, in the frame that I construct for him. My videos focus, but not exclusively, on the exploration and boundaries of eroticism and violence.
My paintings, due to my unique collage technique resemble animal skins. The explorations and notion of physicality are key elements of my work. My work is sensitive and playful; it has a child-like explorative eye and a dark hidden element.
